Typed carbon transcript of a diary dated August 4 to September 1, 1887, written by Mrs. M. Wood who travelled alone from New York to San Francisco and then to Port Townsend, Washington, where she boarded the Steamer Ancon for a voyage to Alaska. The diary contains descriptions of places she visited during the Alaska portion of her journey, including Indian settlements, salmon canneries, a gold mine, missions, and other points of interest along the route which included Port Chester, Wrangell, Juneau, Chilcoot, Glacier Bay, and Sitka, Alaska. She describes meeting missionary William Duncan on board the Ancon while he was travelling to his new mission in Alaska at Metlakatla, and becoming acquainted with other individuals on the ship and in various ports. "M. Wood" is printed in pencil in an unidentified hand at the end of the transcript.
